Middle School Electives

Our middle school electives give students the opportunity to explore their interests, build new skills, and discover their passions. These courses go beyond core academics and help students grow creatively, socially, and intellectually. From technology and leadership to music and media, there's something for everyone. Below are some of the exciting electives we offer:

Art

The middle school art elective offers students a creative space to explore their imagination while building foundational skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Through hands-on projects and exposure to different artistic styles and techniques, students learn to express themselves visually and think critically about the world around them. The course encourages experimentation, fosters confidence, and celebrates individual creativity. Whether students are beginners or have prior experience, the art elective provides a supportive environment where all young artists can grow and shine.

Band (Beginner & Advanced)

Beginner Band offers students the chance to learn an instrument, read music, and perform in concerts throughout the year. It's a great way to develop musical talent, teamwork, and discipline while being part of a dynamic and supportive group.

Advanced Band is designed for students who have mastered the fundamentals and are ready to take their musical skills to the next level. Members perform at school events and community concerts, showcasing their talent and dedication throughout the year. In their very first MPA (Music Performance Assessment), the Advanced Band earned an "Excellent" rating, and they continue to be recognized as a highly rated ensemble.

Critical Thinking

This elective challenges students to think creatively and analytically through puzzles, logic games, and real-world problem-solving. It’s perfect for students who enjoy strategy, innovation, and collaborative thinking.

DIT (Digital Information Technology)

DIT introduces students to essential computer and technology skills, including word processing, presentations, digital citizenship, and basic coding. This course helps prepare students for high school, college, and future careers in the digital world, and students also have the opportunity to earn industry certifications that showcase their technology proficiency.

ITV

Students in ITV help create and broadcast the school’s morning news show. They learn about video production, public speaking, camera operation, and editing while keeping the school informed and entertained.

Library Assistant

Library Assistants support the daily operations of the school library, helping with book checkouts, organizing shelves, and assisting other students. It’s a great fit for students who love reading and want to contribute to their school community.

Mentor

In the Mentors elective, students serve as positive role models for younger peers, helping with activities and offering support. This elective builds leadership, empathy, and communication skills while making a lasting impact on others.

P.E.

PE encourages students to stay active, build fitness, and develop teamwork through a wide variety of games, sports, and physical activities. Students learn the value of healthy habits, sportsmanship, and personal goal-setting in a fun and supportive environment.

Pre-Engineering I & II

Pre-Engineering I (for 7th graders) and Pre-Engineering II (for 8th graders) introduce students to the exciting world of engineering and design. Through hands-on projects, students explore concepts such as 3D modeling, simple machines, structural design, and the engineering design process. These courses are perfect for curious, creative thinkers interested in problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation in STEM fields.

Yearbook / Journalism

Yearbook is a creative elective where students design and produce the school’s annual yearbook, gaining hands-on experience in photography, graphic design, writing, and layout to capture lasting memories. After the yearbook is completed, the class shifts to a journalistic focus, with students writing news articles and other media pieces that highlight school events and student life. They also work on digital media projects for the school, including the end-of-year slideshow and the 8th grade graduation slideshow. Toward the end of the year, students engage in a novel study that incorporates article writing and digital media presentations.
