SRO - Officer G.'s Corner
About Officer G
Hey everyone!
I am Deputy Nicholas Gongwer (Deputy G to the kiddos) and I am very proud to be SS Dixon Primary's School Resource Officer. I wanted to take some time to tell you a little about myself and my roles and responsibilities at the school. I have been in Law Enforcement since 2003, and I have been with the Sherriff's Office since 2020. I have an amazing wife, Courtney, who works at the Pace area schools as a trauma counselor. I have (3) beautiful daughters, Lucy (19), Chloe (16), and Ruby (6). I coached soccer in the area for several years, but my youngest decided to try gymnastics, so my coaching days are over for now. (Nobody wants to see me do a cartwheel)
I enjoy being out in the school and interacting with the students and getting into the classrooms to speak to the kids about safety and law enforcement related topics. My primary focus, however, is ensuring the safety of everyone on campus. This means you will typically find me in the front office monitoring who is coming and going at SS Dixon Primary. If I am not up front, it is because I am walking the campus making sure all doors are locked, and the fences are secure. I take the safety and security of the school very seriously and work hard to ensure everyone has a safe environment to learn and teach.
There are a couple of things you can do as parents to help with this mission:
No cell phones in car rider. It's not only dangerous, but also illegal (F.S. 316.003)
Please pay attention in the parking lot. There are a lot of kids being dropped off due to our VPK students having to be walked in by a parent. They should be waiting for the car line to stop, but not everyone is aware of this rule.
Have your state issued identification ready when entering the building. It is state law that your ID be displayed to the camera prior to entering the school.
Please remember you are coming to a Primary school. Dress, speak and act accordingly.
Make sure your student is at school on time every day. They are supposed to be in their classroom by the tardy bell at 0815. Remember (3) late check-ins or early check-outs counts as an absence. Too many absences can require you to be on a truancy monitoring plan. Nobody wants that.
We encourage our parents to come to SS Dixon to eat lunch, volunteer and participate in all the amazing activities we provide for students and families. Please do your part in making this school the best in Santa Rosa County!!
