What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Support. The PBIS mission is to increase the use of team-based planning and problem-solving to implement positive behavior support within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The PBIS team looks at four integrated elements: “(a) data for decision making, (b) measurable outcomes supported and evaluated by data, (c) practices with evidence that these outcomes are achievable, and (d) systems that efficiently and effectively support the implementation of these practices.” (www.pbis.org)

What this means is that a team of staff members has been assembled to provide information, resources, and tools to assist with the design of classroom expectations, rules, routines, lesson plans for expected behaviors, strategies for encouraging appropriate behavior, and guidelines for responding to problem behavior.

Our goal is to build a school where positive behavior is more effective than negative by using preventative teaching and reinforcement.
