Big cheers to our readers! 📚✨

Congrats to Emily Anderson, Rebecca Angeles, Elisabeth Johnson, Huntleigh Jurjens, and Jonah Tanner for shining at today’s Battle of the Books! While our team didn't place, they were competitive and worked hard to get themselves to the competition.

Huge love to our media specialist Ms. Annie Martillano, too — Book Club wouldn’t be the same without her dedication and care. Book Club is only one of many ways Hobbs Middle helps students find their place, and Ms. Martillano helps create that for our students. Because of the best teachers and staff like her, there’s truly something for everyone here!

💚💛 Hello Jaguar Families! 💛💚

This is Brandon Koger, principal of Hobbs Middle School, with an important and exciting announcement for our amazing 6th and 7th grade students and families!

Today, your student took a big step toward their journey in the 2026–2027 school year! They received an elective selection card:

🟡 Yellow for current 6th graders (next year’s 7th grade)
🔵 Blue for current 7th graders (next year’s 8th grade)

Here’s what you need to know:

🎯 Electives Overview:

1. PE is required for all students—however...
2. PE can be waived if:
o Your student has a medical waiver from a doctor.
o They choose a special selection elective (Band, AVID, SGA, or Library Assistant).
o They are enrolled in a required elective, such as Gifted, Learning Strategies, Intensive Reading, or Intensive Math.

Ranking Elective Choices:

Students should rank their elective choices on the card. While we try our best, first-choice placement isn’t guaranteed—so ranking is key!

📄 Special Selection Electives:

Interested in SGA (7th and 8th grade only), Library Assistant (7th and 8th grade only), or DIT (8th grade only)? These electives require an application, which is attached.

Important note: Submitting an application does not guarantee placement. Final decisions will be made by the sponsoring teacher and school administration.

📅 Return Deadline:

All schedule cards must be turned in to students' first period teacher by April 27th.

📞 Got questions?

Please don’t wait—reach out to our guidance department ASAP if you have any questions or special requests. Once summer hits, it may be too late to adjust schedules.

We’re thrilled about what’s ahead for our Jaguars and can’t wait for an amazing 2026–2027 school year!

Thank you for being an essential part of the HMS family. 💚💛

Today, our AVID elective students had an incredible opportunity to visit the Santa Rosa Center for Innovation!

Throughout the visit, students rotated through a variety of sessions and gained hands-on experience with different career and technical pathways. From exploring new technologies to engaging in real-world applications, our students were immersed in learning that connects directly to their future opportunities.

These are the kinds of meaningful experiences that define our AVID program 💚—giving students authentic opportunities to build college and career readiness in engaging and impactful ways.

To make the day even more special, our students were only the second group ever to visit this brand-new innovation center—an incredible privilege made possible through our AVID program. Opportunities like this continue to open doors, expand horizons, and inspire our students to think big about their futures!

🌟 WICOR Spotlight 🌟

In Ms. Cullinan’s 6th grade language arts classrooms, WICOR strategies were on full display during a highly engaging lesson on analyzing shared and implied themes across passages.

Students strengthened their Writing skills by organizing and supporting their ideas with evidence, then built on that thinking through Collaboration as they worked in groups to discuss and come to consensus answers.

Through purposeful questioning and deeper analysis, students engaged in meaningful Inquiry, while close examination of multiple texts reinforced strong Reading skills.

The success of the lesson was supported by clear Organization systems, including established class norms, stoplight volume cues, and consistent expectations—creating an environment where students stayed focused, engaged, and productive. 💚

WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) strategies make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun—and at Hobbs, this is the type of hands-on, rigorous learning your students will experience! 🙌📚🔑

Did you know that Hobbs Middle School offers two sections of Spanish I for our 8th grade students—for high school credit? This incredible opportunity is available thanks to the hard work and dedication of Dr. Amy Parker, our district’s Social Studies Coordinator, and her World Languages team, who have secured grants to expand learning experiences for our students.

This week, our Spanish I students had the exciting opportunity to visit the University of West Florida to participate in a Global Block Party—an engaging, real-world experience that brought language and culture to life in a fun and meaningful way!

Spanish I is just one example of the many opportunities available to students at Hobbs. We are proud to provide experiences that challenge, inspire, and prepare our students for success in high school and beyond. 💚

Jaguar students, staff, and families,

The celebrations continue at Hobbs! Please join me in celebrating Ms. Caitlyn Hodge, our Hobbs Middle School Rookie Teacher of the Year! 💚

In her very first year in teaching, Ms. Hodge has made an extraordinary impact—you would never guess she’s new to the profession. She brings the passion, polish, and presence of a seasoned educator, and as one of our school counselors, she is exactly the kind of person our students need during some of the most transformative years of their lives.

Ms. Hodge leads with heart. Her positivity, kindness, and empathy create a safe, supportive space for all students. At the same time, she is incredibly detail- and goal-oriented, ensuring that even our students with the greatest academic and social needs receive the guidance and support they deserve. Through her leadership of our Hope Squad/Empowerment Club, she is helping shape a culture of kindness, inclusion, and student leadership across our campus.

We are beyond proud of Ms. Hodge and so grateful for the energy, care, and excellence she brings to Hobbs each and every day. She is truly one of the best! 💚
